Text alerts from a SIM7000 or SIM7080 board on Hologram

A board with a Hologram SIM, such as a SIM7000 or SIM7080, sends its readings to Hologram's cloud. IoT Message reads them and texts the people you choose when a reading matters.

What the board needs

If your board already sends its data to Hologram's cloud, nothing on it changes. IoT Message reads those device messages from Hologram with your Hologram API key.

Hologram's own alerts stopped sending texts in May 2026 (what changed), so the text comes from IoT Message instead.

Setting it up

  1. Create an IoT Message account and save your Hologram API key under Settings, Device platform. IoT Message stores it encrypted and reads your devices' messages about once a minute.
  2. Your board appears on the Devices page, listed from its Hologram organization. In an organization with more than 100 devices, it appears when it sends its first message, or when you add it by its Hologram device ID.
  3. Add recipients: the phone numbers and email addresses that get the alert.
  4. Write a template: the words of the text, with the reading in it.
  5. Write a trigger: which device, and which messages. For example, a temperature over 40. Test it against the board's recent messages, then turn it on.

From then on, a message that matches the trigger sends the text to each recipient.

Questions

Does the board need new firmware?
No, if it already sends its data to Hologram's cloud.
What does a message need to contain?
Whatever your trigger looks for: a tag, a word, or a value. IoT Message reads plain text and JSON.
Can the text go to more than one person?
Yes. A trigger sends to every recipient on it.
Can someone text the board back?
Yes, with Relay, an add-on. A phone on your list texts IoT Message, and the text goes on to the device.
