Hologram SMS alerts removed: how to get text alerts again

Hologram alerts no longer send a text. They send an email or call a webhook, and IoT Message can take that webhook and send the text.

What changed

Hologram removed SMS as a way for its alerts to notify you on May 4, 2026 (version 3.1.1 of its dashboard). Its release notes say the feature relied on SMS over IP, which Hologram deprecated in 2023. Since an August 2026 notice, Hologram alerts notify only by email or webhook.

An alert you set up to text you no longer does, and Hologram marks it as no longer supported. You can read the change in Hologram's 2026 release notes.

How to get the text back

  1. Create an IoT Message account. Under Settings, Device platform, Webhook endpoints, you get an address, a credential, and the payload for each Hologram alert type.
  2. In Hologram, set the alert to call a webhook at that address, with the credential in the custom header and the payload IoT Message shows for that alert type.
  3. In IoT Message, add the people who get the text as recipients, and write the template: the words of the text, with values from the event in them.
  4. Write a trigger for the events that should send it. You can test a trigger against your recent events before you turn it on. What a trigger can look for.

Each event Hologram sends to the webhook arrives in IoT Message. A trigger it matches sends the template to its recipients by text, email, or both.

Data your devices send, not only Hologram's alerts

Hologram sends no webhook for data a device sends to its cloud. With your Hologram API key, IoT Message reads your devices' messages about once a minute, so a trigger can text you on a reading, such as a temperature over a limit or a tank level under one.

The webhook needs no API key. The Help page compares what each one gives you, and Pricing lists the plans, Free among them.
