An alternative to Hologram SMS over IP for device alerts

IoT Message turns events from your Hologram devices into texts and emails, without SMS over IP.

What happened to SMS over IP

Hologram deprecated SMS over IP in 2023. Its alerts used it to send texts, and on May 4, 2026 Hologram removed SMS from the ways an alert can notify you. Hologram alerts now send an email or call a webhook (Hologram's 2026 release notes).

How IoT Message sends the text

Events from your devices
IoT Message gets them two ways: from a Hologram alert that calls a webhook, which needs no API key, and from the messages your devices send to Hologram's cloud, which it reads with your Hologram API key about once a minute.
Triggers
A trigger names the events that matter: a device, a tag, a value over a limit, or words in the message. You can test it against your recent events before you turn it on (more on triggers).
Templates
A template is the words of the text, with values from the event in them. IoT Message reviews each template before it is used.
Recipients
Each recipient gets a text, an email, or both. A long message goes as one MMS instead of several texts, and a recipient can reply STOP to stop the texts.

Texting a device

Relay, an add-on, lets a phone on your list text a device. IoT Message passes the text on by SMS through Hologram's cloud, by SMS over the cellular network, or by TCP or UDP to a port, and the device's answer comes back to the phone.

Getting started

Create an account, then connect Hologram with your API key, a webhook, or both. The Help page compares the two, and Pricing lists the plans.
